Composition Workshop

For College Students

Musaica announces it’s annual chamber music composition workshop!  The winning composer's work will be premiered by Musaica during its 2019-20 season!

Congratulations to Dylan J. Tran, a recent graduate of Loyola University, for being chosen last spring to participate in the next round of workshopping sessions that will take place this season. Musicians from Musaica will work with Dylan on his String Quartet No. 1 on Vietnamese folk themes to be performed on a concert in the 2018-19 season.

The application deadline for the next workshop has been extended to March 2, 2018

Here are the details of the contest:

Open to all college students from the Southeastern region of Louisiana.

Composers should submit a recent work for chamber ensemble (generally 3 to 10 players).

Members of Musaica and a committee of local professional composers will look at the scores submitted and select the winner, who will be announced at our final performances in April, 2017.  The winning student will receive the opportunity to write a new work for Musaica.  During the course of the following season, the musicians from Musaica who are playing the piece will workshop it with the student and edit it as necessary to prepare it for a final performance.
